# Roleplay Discord servers

The Roleplay category is home to collaborative storytelling in all its forms. Text roleplay is organised by writing style, from casual RP with quick replies to semi-literate and literate RP with long, crafted posts, and by setting, with dedicated tags for fantasy and science fiction. Tabletop gaming is here too, through the D&D and TTRPG tags, along with worldbuilding communities that create settings for stories and games.

Choosing a roleplay server starts with two questions: how much do you like to write, and what kind of world do you want to play in? Writing-style tags answer the first, setting tags the second. After that, read a server's rules and lore before joining. Good roleplay communities explain character approval, content ratings and how they handle conflict between characters, and they keep in-character drama separate from out-of-character friendship.

Content ratings are the first thing DiscoListing staff check here. A listing has to say plainly how far its stories go, from family-friendly adventure to graphic horror. Anything sexual belongs exclusively in age-gated NSFW servers that stay out of default results, and no story, lore or claimed age makes sexual content with child characters acceptable; such servers are removed and their owners blocked. Staff who lean on members to continue scenes in private, and "plots" that target real people, are equally grounds for rejection. Paid tabletop sessions are welcome as long as pricing, session counts and refund terms are written down.

If you have never roleplayed, try a casual server or a beginner D&D one-shot. Both are low-commitment ways to discover whether collaborative storytelling is for you.

Because DiscoListing ranks servers on retention as well as activity, roleplay communities with long-running stories and loyal players tend to do well here, even if their posting pace is slower than chat-focused servers.
