Top.gg Votes Explained in 2026: Resets, Rewards and Ads

How Top.gg votes work in 2026: 12-hour cooldowns, weekend double votes, monthly resets, vote rewards and paid Auctions, compared with capped, decaying votes.

Top.gg votes decide where most bots and servers appear on Top.gg, so it helps to know exactly what a vote measures. Votes there reset every month, count double on weekends and can be rewarded inside a bot. That makes a high vote count a strong sign of how well a listing asks for votes, and a weaker sign of how good it is.

This guide explains Top.gg's voting rules from its own help pages, why rankings jump around at the start of each month, and how votes work differently on DiscoListing. We run DiscoListing, a competing list, so we link the sources for every Top.gg rule below.

How voting works on Top.gg

According to Top.gg's voting help article:

  • 12-hour cooldown. You can vote for the same bot or server again once 12 hours have passed.
  • Weekend double votes. From Friday through Sunday (UTC), one vote counts as two.
  • Monthly reset. Vote totals for every listing go back to zero at midnight UTC on the 1st of each month.

Votes also drive visibility: the more votes a listing receives in the current month, the higher it appears in search and sorting.

Why Top.gg rankings jump after the 1st

Because every listing resets at once, the order right after a reset is decided by whoever collects votes fastest in the first days of the month. A February 2025 write-up on the proposed voting change describes sorting breaking while every bot sits at zero, with the correct order taking hours or days to settle. In the poll it reports, 535 people preferred a rolling 31-day count and 65 preferred keeping resets.

A bot approved mid-month also starts behind listings that have been collecting votes since the 1st.

Vote rewards: what a vote really measures

Top.gg's voting guidelines allow a bot to reward people for voting for it, as long as the bot doesn't lock most features behind voting or reward votes for other listings. Reward bots such as streak trackers and vote-role bots are common.

Rewards are legitimate, but they change what a vote count tells you. A bot that gives in-game currency for every vote will collect far more votes than an equally good bot that doesn't, and weekend double votes amplify the gap. When you compare two bots, treat the vote count as a measure of how actively each one campaigns.

Top.gg Auctions and #Promoted listings

Top.gg sells placement through Auctions: advertisers bid every week, and winners pay for featured slots. The Auctions partnership page lists slots including Front Page Top Voted and Front Page Trending New. Paid placements are labelled #Promoted.

Labelled ads are honest advertising, but they sit in the same sections as ranked listings. Check for the label before reading a front-page position as a recommendation.

Top.gg votes not counting? Check these first

If your bot's vote rewards stop arriving, the usual causes are on the receiving end. Top.gg's webhook documentation says:

  1. Your endpoint must answer with HTTP 200 within 5 seconds, or the delivery is treated as failed and retried.
  2. The Authorization header must exactly match the value saved in your bot's webhook settings.
  3. 4XX responses aren't retried, so a wrong auth check silently drops votes.
  4. A firewall must allow Top.gg's delivery IP, listed in the same documentation.

For voters, the most common reason is the cooldown: a second vote inside 12 hours isn't counted.

How votes work on DiscoListing

We built voting so a vote count is hard to inflate and never resets to zero:

  • Votes fade instead of resetting. Each vote loses half its weight every 48 hours, so rankings change gradually rather than jumping on the 1st.
  • Votes are capped. Votes can never be more than 20% of a listing's Quality Score. Activity, retention and staff review make up the rest.
  • One vote per account and per network. You can vote for one server every 24 hours and one bot every 12 hours. We store a salted hash of your network, never your IP address, and VPN and hosting networks may be blocked.
  • New accounts can't vote. Accounts need a minimum age and a quick verification check.
  • Spikes are flagged. Sudden jumps in votes are checked by staff.
  • No sponsored slots or auctions. We don't sell featured positions, banner ads or auctioned top spots. Staff pins are editorial picks, always labelled "Pinned", and are never sold.

We do have one paid factor: Premium is a disclosed signal capped at 20% of ranking weight, shown with a badge on the listing. Plus and Pro also shorten the bump cooldown. The ranking page shows the current weights.

Which should you use?

List your bot on Top.gg for its audience, and list it here too. Discord's own App Directory is worth adding as well. Visitors comparing bots get a ranking where a reward campaign can't outweigh real use. Browse Discord bots, read the Top.gg alternatives guide or submit your bot.
