About Writing Discord servers

Writing communities on Discord help with the hardest part of writing: actually doing it. Writing servers host timed sprints where members write together, critique circles that exchange chapters, genre-specific groups for fantasy, romance, horror and literary fiction, poetry communities, screenwriting groups and spaces for writers navigating querying, self-publishing or serialised fiction platforms.

The best writing servers balance support with honest feedback. Look for critique channels with clear guidelines about the kind of feedback requested, a give-and-take system so everyone reviews others' work, and rules against harsh or dismissive comments. Sprint channels with bots and regular sessions build consistency. Resource channels on craft, publishing and marketing are valuable when kept up to date. Good servers also respect writers' ownership of their work and set rules against copying or sharing drafts outside the server.

DiscoListing has every writing server checked by staff before it appears. We reject servers that harvest members' writing for resale or training without consent, plagiarism hubs, essay mills selling academic work, and "publishing" schemes that charge writers predatory fees. We confirm that a server's description matches its focus, whether that is novel critique, poetry or screenwriting.

If you have a project you have been putting off, try a server that runs daily sprints. Writing alongside others, even silently, is one of the most reliable ways to build momentum and finish a draft.

Related tags include Books, Fanfiction, Worldbuilding and Literate RP for communities that share a love of storytelling. Poets and short story writers will also find dedicated channels in many general writing servers, so do not assume a server is only for novelists.
