About Science Discord servers

Science communities on Discord bring together students, researchers and curious minds. Servers cover physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy and space, earth sciences, neuroscience and more, with channels for discussing new research, explaining concepts, helping students with coursework, sharing science news and debating how evidence is interpreted. Some communities are run by researchers or science communicators, others by enthusiasts.

The best science servers value evidence and clear explanation. Look for rules requiring sources for claims, channels separated by field, and helpers who explain concepts at different levels. Discussion of new papers should distinguish between preliminary findings and established consensus. Astronomy communities often run observation nights and share astrophotography. Good moderation keeps out misinformation and pseudoscience without discouraging honest questions.

DiscoListing reviewers reject science servers that spread health misinformation, promote dangerous experiments or sell fake supplements and "cures". We also reject servers that share pirated textbooks or paywalled papers in bulk. Communities that discuss science openly and honestly are welcome.

If you are fascinated by a topic but intimidated by the jargon, ask a science community for a beginner-friendly explanation. Many members enjoy explaining their field to newcomers.

Related tags include Math, Study, Nature and AI for related learning communities.

Science communicators and educators also use these servers to share outreach work, from explainer videos to museum events and citizen science projects. Citizen science channels, where members contribute observations to real research projects such as bird counts, galaxy classification or weather tracking, are a wonderful way for non-scientists to take part in genuine discovery.

Students considering a science degree can benefit as well. Researchers in these communities often answer questions about choosing a field, finding lab experience and what day-to-day research actually looks like.
